Author Nick Repole’s great-great-grandparents Angelo Maria Patrissi and Maria Giuseppa Annese married in the small southern Italian town of Rapone in 1873. Both were born in what was then known as the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and witnessed, as children, the tumultuous events surrounding Garibaldi’s efforts in founding a united Italy; an era that would later profoundly affect their own family.
Over the course of 28 years, the couple had fourteen children: several passing away as children, some going on to participate in the First World War and several choosing to seize the chance to make a life for themselves in America during the era of the great migration.
This book is dedicated to the Patrissi family and details their lives, paying homage to their courage and tenacity as they confronted the confusion and uncertainty of those times on both sides of the the Atlantic.
