A personal memoir of a 93 year old man, David M. Sablan, from Saipan, the capital island of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), a U.S. territory. He grew up under Japanese occupation and lived through the dramatic bombing and capture by US forces in a cave on the side of a mountain. The capture of Saipan was critical to the US war effort, crippling Japan's defense perimeter, leading to the end of WW2 a few months later.
