Combining science with satire and fantasy elements requires extensive research, along with a spark of imagination. My intention with the story is to provide a satiric analogy of the existence of brutal authoritarianism in history, its demise, and the courage displayed by those who fled, became refugees, and survived. The contemporary part provides a touch of fantasy and horror. The question of ‘Chance vs Destiny’ is a common subject. An inanimate object, a Diamond, tells the story.

As we explore history, we will see troubling patterns repeat. These include oppressive leaders and the suffering of refugees. Flags with four bent arms remind us of the dark forces at work."
