Long before today’s headlines and the tensions that now define the region, these were places a traveler could still move through an imperfect, volatile, and deeply human world. What now feels distant and dangerous was once immediate, intimate, and accessible.

What began as wanderlust became a five-year immersion into fragile regimes, ancient traditions, and the lived realities behind belief, power, and survival.
