First, compose simple melodies and riffs with a row of 12 notes, then construct chord progressions, overlay melodies, and apply multiple sets of 12 notes using the 'System 2412' and 'The Circle of 12 Notes' writing systems to create new sounds, tonal shifts, uncommon note combinations, and patterns.
This is not the "Arnold Schoenberg serial 12-tone system" that requires that "all 12 chromatic notes are to be played before any note is repeated" with rows in prime, retrograde, inversion, and retrograde inversion forms on a 12x12 matrix.
The systems I use to write music don't require advanced knowledge of music theory. They use basic intervals, chords, and scales, but are applied in a unique, different way. Of course, the more theory you know, the better, but if you don't know much theory, you can learn along the way.
Everything in this book is presented in its simplest form, making it easy to grasp and understand. It all starts with knowing where the notes are on your instrument. From there...? Intervals, what notes are in chords, what notes are in scales, how chords and scales work together, how and why some notes blend together while others clash, and then, most importantly, listening to what it all sounds like.
There are over 100 examples taken from 20 songs written and recorded by my bands/projects Blotted Science, Spastic Ink, WatchTower, and Ron Jarzombek (solo). All examples are explained in detail, and audio is available for download so you can follow along.
