Stephen Czerkas saw the original 1933 King Kong on television as a child and decided to make his own dinosaur movies. By the age of 12 he had won a Kodak award for a stop-motion short that he wrote, but by age 15 he knew he wanted to be a paleontologist, Stephen first embarked on a career in stop-motion animation and special effects. He worked on several movies and TV series including Planet of Dinosaurs (1977), Jason of Star Command (TV Series, 1979) and Dreamscape (1984).
Stephen's early scientific studies of dinosaurs focused on their anatomy. He later studied feathered dinosaurs and the relationship between dinosaurs and birds and in 2002 authored Feathered Dinosaurs and the Origin of Flight. Stephen applied his artistic skills and scientific knowledge to sculpting life-size dinosaurs for American and foreign museums, including the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, The Philadelphia Academy of Science, The Museum für Naturkunde in Münster, Germany, and The Vienna Museum of Natural History. Stephen co-created with his wife Sylvia a series of traveling museum exhibits about dinosaurs and in 1992 he and Sylvia and his friend Dale Slade co-founded the nonprofit Dinosaur Museum in in the Blanding, Utah, in beautiful San Juan County.
At The Dinosaur Museum, the complete history of the world of the dinosaurs is presented:skeletons, fossilized skin, eggs, footprints, state-of-the-art graphics, and beautifully realistic sculptures present the dinosaurs from the Four Corners region and throughout the globe.
