Forever #82: Through the Valley

Freddy Zamora Jr. was more than an athlete.

He was a son, brother, teammate, and leader whose courage inspired an entire community.

During his senior year at Akins High School, Freddy was diagnosed with stage-four cancer. Instead of fear, he faced the battle with the same determination he brought to the football field.

Even while fighting cancer, Freddy attended prom where he was crowned Prom King and later graduated with his class to a standing ovation at the Frank Erwin Center.

Although his life ended at just eighteen years old, Freddy’s legacy continues to live on. His jersey number was retired during a ceremony at Burger Stadium. The youth football league where he first played honored him at Garrison Park, and in 2014 the baseball fields at George Morales Dove Springs Recreation Center were named after him.

Forever #82 is a story of courage, family, faith, and the enduring legacy of a young man who refused to let adversity define him.
