This book is a follow up to my second book "Hockey - In Search of Excellence - Core Competency" where I described in detail the vast scope of skills, tactics, cognitive and physiological skills a youth player needs to learn in order to achieve elite status. The problem with development today, in most cases, is that it is social media driven and trainers tend to follow various coaches where they can check our certain skills and drills and then incorporate them into their everyday training regiment.
The problem with this is that the tactic side of the game or, as I like to think of it, "the game within the game" which really in essence is the foundation of a player's Hockey IQ. This book focus on over 150 core tactical elements that elite players perform and coaches expect from their players in defensive, neutral and offensive zones at the higher levels of play.
This is one of the best tactical resources that you will find and should be part of every players study habits. This allows one to not only read up on the tactics but to interact with the tables in the book to assess one's understanding and ability to execute each one. I have provided additional space for added comments and at the end of each section one can sum total their assessment of each zone of play. At the very end of the book one can them take the assessments from each chapter and isolate the skills and specific information that one would need to focus on to become proficient in each element. This allows the player to "exactly" focus their development on those skills that would maximize their tactical game success.
