How Would Jesus Coach?

How Would Jesus Coach? is a season-long devotional and discipleship study written specifically for coaches. Designed as a 12-week journey with two built-in bye weeks, it is meant to be started at the beginning of a season and carried through week by week as coaches navigate the challenges, responsibilities, victories, and struggles that naturally arise throughout the season.

This study is not about turning coaches into pastors or practices into sermons. It is about aligning leadership with Christ and recognizing that coaching, at its core, is a form of discipleship. This study challenges coaches to let their faith be seen before it is spoken and to model Christ through character, consistency, humility, integrity, discipline, and love.

Each week includes a study, reflection questions, and a Prayer Request Lineup section where coaches can record prayer needs throughout the season. The journey begins by examining how Jesus coached, why we coach, and who we are coaching. It then explores building a Christ-centered team before moving through the same realities coaches and athletes encounter as a season progresses, including humility and leadership, responding to winning and losing, grace, discipline and accountability, conflict resolution, perseverance, team refinement, and competing with integrity. The study concludes with the send-off, helping coaches release athletes with confidence, trusting that the seeds planted throughout the season can continue to bear fruit long after the final game.

What remains are athletes shaped by their coach’s example and influenced by the legacy that example leaves behind.
