INDIANA’S HISTORIC FIRE TOWERS

This book is an excellent source of information for individuals wanting to learn about, visit, and climb Indiana’s fire towers. The State of Indiana erected 41 fire towers, in the early 1900’s, to help protect the state’s existing and emerging forest. Today, 20 of these fire towers are still standing, and 13 of the 20 towers are on public property and can be visited. Eleven fire towers can be climbed. Historic data on all 41 fire towers has been collected and summarized for inclusion within the book. Driving directions and latitude and longitude locations for each standing tower on public property are provided as well, as is a location map for these towers. Information on unusual fire towers in Indiana that were never used in the state for forest fire detection is another topic in the book.
