Ted Freed, new resident of the area and applicant for membership in the men's only Pheasant Hollow Golf Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is shot dead on the fourteenth tee during a complimentary round of golf offered all applicants.

Jeremy Pendelton, newly employed reporter for the weekly False River Review, is on the case.
