Secrets of Life by Karunesh. Karunesh uses his arsenal of synthesizers, samplers, and mostly sequenced drums to create a dance music vibe on many of the pieces offered here. On others he succeeds in creating as East Indian tapestry, weaving ethnic sounds with the "real McCoy" vocals. I liked Mohammed Eghbal's voice on "Inshallah" and kudos as well to the mystery woman(not mentioned on the liner notes)who sang on "A Journey to India". My favorite selection, though, was the first: "Call of the Tribes". This is music evocative of Hugo Montenegro and the spaghetti western sound of many of the earlier Clint Eastwood films like The Good the Bad, & the Ugly. Secrets of Life is an enjoyable hybrid of "Western" and Eastern music. -- Napra Review-Fall 1996
The music radiates different cultures around the world and is influenced by Karunesh's experience of various melodic and rhythmical world-music styles. The instruments are guitars, tablas, synthesizers, and vocals, with special appearances by Govi and Mohammad Eghbal. -- White Swan
About the Artist
Born in Germany in 1956, Karunesh is constantly on a personal quest to be creative in his work. In 1979 on a quest for spiritual fulfillment he visited India. A self-taught producer Karunesh released his first recordings in 1984 with the Nightingale Records title.
