Active shooter drills have become a way of life in our K-12 schools. In a Joe Biden speech in 2024, he said there have been over 400 gun incidents, which would include active shooters, since Columbine. According to the K-12 School Shooting Database, a publication of the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS), a total of 118 active shooter incidents have been reported at K-12 schools in the U.S. since 1999. Since that horrible day at Columbine, 440 people have been killed and 1,243 injured in shooting events at K-12 schools.
