I wanted to take a different approach with this CD. I wanted the music to have an underlying energy, but still evoke a feeling of relaxation, peace and calm. I focused mainly on different flutes and recorders for melody and texture. I took the approach stretching the form to very long phrases, and using short motifs to make up the much longer phrases.

About the Artist

A Santa Monica native, composer Michael Benghiat has been steeped in music since childhood. Accomplished on such diverse instruments as the koto, sitar and dulcimer, Michael also collects and studies exotic instruments from all over the world. The natural beauty and panoramic splendor of the Big Sur coast of CA inspired Michael's first At Peace CD recording, Music From Big Sur, the original soundtrack to the Esalen Massage Video. An author of books on musical instruction as well as a composer and musician, Michael enjoys creating music that leads you inward. He says, "Relaxation, meditation and spirituality seem to play an ever-increasing role in people's lives. All of us can find ourselves rejuvenated by these simple yet vital moments when we slow down, attempt to gain some perspective on what's happening in our lives and think about what's truly important."
